The IMAX Corporation and Universal Pictures alongside Illumination Entertainment announced that Despicable Me 2 will be digitally re-mastered into the IMAX 3D format and will launch internationally this June.
The international release of this film in IMAX 3D will begin on June 20th, 2013. The sequel, a 3D-CG animated feature, is a follow-up to the 2010 title of the same name. The original film grossed more than $543 million (10th highest-grossing animated motion picture in U.S. history).
Chris Meledandri will return to steer the project, with super-villain Gru ( Steve Carell ), his adopted daughters and of course his many hilarious minions. “After the successful release of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, we’re looking forward to partnering again with Chris Meledandri , his talented team and our friends at Universal to offer international IMAX fans an opportunity to experience this highly-anticipated follow up to Despicable Me in immersive IMAX 3D,” said Greg Foster, the Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment.

The IMAX release of Despicable Me 2 will be digitally re-mastered into “the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience” according to the announcement.
