Nintendo had a ton of great future content to show off during this morning’s Nintendo Direct Announcement. Above all else though, a Zelda game coming to the 3DS seems to be favorite.
From the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) to the Nintendo 3DS, this new game will be a direct sequel to the 1991 fan favorite. A little disheartening to Wii U fans, the Nintendo 3DS will get this title as an exclusive. Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating office of Nintendo of America, announced this title this morning.
Fils-Aime stated that the new “Link to the Past” will be a sequel, featuring a top-down approach to gameplay just like the original had. Once again the Hyrule champion Link, will take center stage in the story. The game will have new dungeons and new gameplay mechanics to take advantage of all that the Nintendo 3DS has to offer.
The gameplay video above features just a few of the many locations and gameplay mechanics that will await players in the new game. One of these mechanics is Link’s ability to “become a drawing,” which which creates a flat Link to fit through the tiniest of cracks. “By moving in the walls, your viewpoint changes and you can see the connections within the area that you couldn’t observe before,” Fils-Aime explained. “This new mechanic will play a key role in solving puzzles in the game.” The game is expected to launch later this year but no date was given at this time.
