At this point almost everyone knows that the there will be a next-genration Xbox 360 announced this year. What it will look like is still a mystery but if Ubisoft online profiles are correct, you might know what it will be called.
According to several online sources, most notably the LinkedIn profiles of certain Ubisoft employees, the next generation Xbox will be called ‘X720’. The LinkedIn profiles in question list the platforms for ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ as the following: “Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag (PC, PS3, X360, PS4, X720, WiiU). The profile of Paolo Mninetti, senior game developer for Ubisoft, is just one of these profiles.
Although this could be just an abbreviation or a placeholder, it would make sense for Xbox to continue their current theme in naming the device 720. Dropping the ‘Xbox’ out of the name however wouldn’t be a likely move for Microsoft. The company has spent the last few decades building up the Xbox brand, to just drop it should be taken with a grain of salt. More likely the device will keep the ‘Xbox’ brand, and be named ‘Xbox 720’ instead.
