In the ongoing original-content wars, Netflix has just agreed to release 10 episodes of a new series called ‘Sense8’. The new scifi sereis is just the latest addition to Netflix’s growing library of original content.
The series will not debut until late 2014 but the show is already stirring up some buzz, mostly for the series attachment to the Wachowski team. Scifi fans should instantly recognize the names Andy and Lana Wachowski. The pair are responisble for such hits as the ‘Matrix’ franchise, ‘V for Vendetta’, ‘Cloud Atlas’ and more.
As we mentioned before there is a current content-war going on between services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu Plus for who can secure the best and most successful original programing for its viewers. One of the most successful of these exclusive series is Netflix’s “House of Cards”. The addition of a scifi series will round out the genres being offered by Netflix’s new original content schedule. There is little doubt that Netflix is hoping to capitalize on the Wachowski brand-name, getting their subscribers to commit to another scifi show can be tricky. Often times in scifi you’re either launched in the stratosphere of the culture, or you don’t make it to season two. A third direction is usually not an option.
You can await more news from Netflix about the show as it gets closer to release. Also on the schedule for Netflix is “Derek” from Ricky Gervais, a new season of “Arrested Development,” and “Turbo: F.A.S.T.”
