Yoko Ono takes on gun control while sharing an image of John Lennon’s blood stained glasses
A powerful image was sent out from widow Yoko Ono, who released a single picture of John Lennon’s bloodstained glasses, the very glasses that he wore when was shot and killed right here in New York City.
The image was sent out by Ono’s personal Twitter account, who she shares her personal thoughts and messages with the almost 4 million followers that she has collected over the years. Behind the glasses lies central park, the heart of the city and the final home of John Lennon (Ono spread John Lennon’s cremated remains within what is now dedicated as the ‘Strawberry Fields memorial’ built by New York for the fallen legend). Ono and Lennon were married on March 20, 1969.
The Tweets that were then sent out, were a message on gun violence. Spanning four tweets in total, all linked to one image, there were different messages for each Tweet:
- “Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980.”
- “31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone.”
- “Together, let’s bring back America, the green land of peace.”
- “The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon”
