Sir Elton John cancels tour, will undergo surgery for appendix abscess Sean Thomas July 9, 2013 Culture Unfortunately for fans, Elton John has decided that he will have to cancel his tour starting immediately. The singer will instead undergo surgery for an appendix abscess that was discovered earlier this year. The canceled tour confirmation came earlier this morning, the 66 year-old singer was diagnosed with the ailment and it was decided that surgery will have to happen as soon as possible. This will effect all of the upcoming shows on the European tour, including the upcoming Friday concert in London’s Hyde Park with Elvis Costello and Ray Davies. “Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates,” his rep told PEOPLE. “To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans. He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.” The official diagnosis was “appendix abscess surrounding retrocaecal appendicitis” according to the report released from Elton John’s camp. Elton will spend the time recovering with partner David Furnish and sons Zachary and Elijah.
